Naples Airport Closed in November 2026: Which Flights Moved to Salerno and How to Get There

Naples International Airport (Capodichino) is closed to all flights from November 1 to November 30, 2026, while its runway is rebuilt. Some flights have moved to Salerno Costa d’Amalfi e del Cilento Airport, about an hour and a quarter south by bus, while other airlines, including the Lufthansa Group, have cancelled Naples for the month and are rebooking travelers through Rome Fiumicino. If you’re flying to Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento or the Amalfi Coast this month, here’s what has changed and how to get where you’re going.

Why Naples Airport Is Closed in November 2026

Airport operator GESAC announced on October 29 that Naples Airport would shut for the whole of November for a deep rebuild of its runway and taxiway links. According to GESAC’s press release, the project costs a total of €30 million, involves about 500 workers across roughly 250,000 square meters, and runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Crews are removing the old pavement layers and rebuilding the runway with new materials, including high-performance bitumen.

GESAC says it picked November because it’s historically one of the airport’s quietest months. That’s little comfort if your trip happens to fall in it, but it does mean the closure has a fixed end date: the airport is scheduled to reopen after November 30.

Which Flights Moved to Salerno Airport?

GESAC’s official November flight page lists 15 destinations that are operating from Salerno Costa d’Amalfi e del Cilento Airport instead of Naples during the closure.

Domestic routes (6)

  • Bergamo with Ryanair
  • Milan Malpensa with easyJet
  • Milan Linate with Aeroitalia and ITA Airways
  • Genoa, Turin and Trieste with Aeroitalia

International routes (9)

  • Amsterdam with Transavia
  • Barcelona with Vueling
  • Casablanca with Air Arabia Maroc
  • Dubai with flydubai
  • Düsseldorf and Stuttgart with Eurowings
  • Madrid with Iberia
  • Paris with Transavia France
  • Sharm el-Sheikh with Air Cairo and Neos

Both terminals at Salerno are open to handle the extra traffic. The newly opened General Aviation Terminal handles the Casablanca, Dubai, Sharm el-Sheikh and Madrid flights, so check which terminal your flight uses before you set off. GESAC notes that the Madrid route is popular with passengers connecting onward to South America.

If your route isn’t on that list, your airline has most likely cancelled or moved it. The Lufthansa Group says it has suspended all Naples flights for November 1 to 30 and is rebooking passengers from Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna and Zurich onto its flights to Rome Fiumicino where possible. It also says customers affected by a cancellation can rebook once free of charge or get a refund. Other airlines set their own policies, so check your booking in the airline’s app or contact them directly.

How to Get From Naples to Salerno Airport

Salerno’s airport sits in Pontecagnano, southeast of the city of Salerno, so the trip from central Naples takes real planning. Here are the options GESAC and local operators have set up for November.

Special bus: Naples Centrale to Salerno Airport (€12)

GESAC and Busitalia Campania run a direct bus between Napoli Centrale railway station (Piazza Garibaldi, stop on Via Galileo Ferraris) and Salerno Airport every day of the week. Key details:

  • Eight departures a day in each direction, timed around flights.
  • The ride takes about 1 hour 15 minutes.
  • Tickets cost €12 one way and can be bought on board from the driver by debit or credit card, or at PUNTOLIS, DropPoint and Mooney shops.
  • It’s reserved for passengers holding a valid flight ticket for that day.

From Naples, buses leave at 05:00, 06:00, 10:30, 12:30, 14:30, 16:30, 18:30 and 20:50. From the airport back to Naples, they leave at 08:20, 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:30, 18:00, 20:20 and 22:20, with the last one arriving at Piazza Garibaldi around 23:20. Busitalia says times can change with the flight schedule, so check the page the day before you travel.

Salerno Airlink: Salerno station to the airport (€8)

If you’re staying in Salerno, or you take a train from Naples to Salerno first, the Salerno Airlink shuttle connects Salerno railway station with the airport in about 30 minutes. A one-way ticket is €8 for travelers aged 6 and over and includes one bag up to 55 x 40 x 20 cm, with €5 for extra or oversized luggage. Regular regional bus tickets and passes aren’t valid. Frequency has been increased for November, and the timetable differs by day of the week.

Taxis and shared taxis

GESAC has also introduced, on a trial basis, shared taxis at preset fares between Salerno Airport and the main railway stations in Naples and Salerno. Separately, Naples taxi cooperative Consortaxi offers a fixed €170 fare from Naples to Salerno Airport for up to four people with luggage, plus €10 for each additional passenger. The fare runs from November 1 to December 31, 2026 under an agreement with hotels and private customers, and rides are booked through its radio taxi line, 081 22 22. For a family or group splitting the cost, that can beat juggling trains and shuttles with heavy bags.

Amalfi Coast and other connections

Existing bus connections from Salerno Airport to Potenza, Eboli, Battipaglia and the Amalfi Coast are still running. For travelers headed to Positano, Amalfi or Ravello, landing in Salerno may actually be closer than Naples would have been.

Should You Fly Into Rome Instead?

If your airline has moved you to Rome Fiumicino, or no Salerno flight fits your route, Rome is the main alternative gateway. You’ll then need to get from Rome down to Naples by train or car, so build in extra time and book that leg early. Fiumicino can also be a good base if you were planning to see both cities anyway. Tips for Traveling to Naples in November 2026

  • Check your booking now. Look for a schedule change, a new departure airport or a cancellation notice, and confirm whether you’ve been rebooked.
  • Leave more time. A Naples-to-Salerno bus ride of about 75 minutes plus check-in means leaving your hotel much earlier than you would for Capodichino.
  • Watch the late-night return. The last special bus to Naples leaves Salerno Airport at 22:20, so a late arrival may need a taxi.
  • Carry a card. The special bus takes debit and credit cards on board.
  • Know your terminal. Flights to Casablanca, Dubai, Sharm el-Sheikh and Madrid use Salerno’s General Aviation Terminal.
